BASS

Depending on the aspirations of the student, any variety of texts could work. I know of two good slap bass methods: one is called Slap It! and the other is simply called Slap Bass. The latter method is by an author named Desprez (not the Renaissance composer). Another method for a more comprehensive approach is Bass Logic, which incorporates many styles as well as a more conceptual approach to the bass. These books are probably available at the larger chains (which I won’t mention) but could also be obtained online.

I often have electric bass students read the bass parts to known orchestral music, such as that of Bach. Although it is unlikely the student will ever play these parts with an orchestra, the task improves their reading and proclivity for melodic invention.
